I have made simple macro called "start" and saved it successfully.  I can see the macro designation on the right of "Start" when I type in the keyword ( ; ). However, when I press "enter" to execute the macro it always executes the next item on the list. Why is that?

I've solved the problem.  Found out that you need to type in the entire name of the program being launched.

Or, start typing the beginning of the word, and then use the arrow keys to get down to the one that you want (if that's faster, but probably not).
