Keybreeze Desktop 5.7.0 was released on May 23, 2021, and the license has changed to the GPL 3.0. This version is open source and free for everyone to use. There is no longer a paid Pro version. All the features of the Pro version are included for free in this latest version, with the exception of Keybreeze Sync.
Why the change?
The Pro version was around from 2017 to 2021 and had a good run for the first few years, but the popularity of it has declined recently. More and more software applications are becoming open source and utilizing other funding mechanisms, such as cloud offerings, sponsorships, dual licensing, custom development work, and donations. Keybreeze Desktop is transitioning to this model.
Keybreeze Sync is going away?
Keybreeze Sync did not see much usage over the past several years, and since hosting this data is not free, I've made the difficult decision to discontinue Keybreeze Sync. Keybreeze Sync was not included in the latest version. If you upgrade from a prior version, Keybreeze Sync will still exist from the prior installation, and it will still work for the time being, but it will stop working on July 4th, 2021. All data that has been uploaded from Keybreeze Sync will be permanently deleted on August 1, 2021. Please see https://www.keybreeze.com/forum/post/23/where-are-my-settings-stored-how-do-i-transfer-settings-to-another-machine for instructions on how to back up your Keybreeze Desktop settings and move them to another machine.
How do I know if Keybreeze Sync is running?
Press the Keybreeze Desktop hotkey on your keyboard, type options, and press Enter. Click the Sync tab, and there will be a checkbox that will be checked if Keybreeze Sync is enabled.
There will also be a blue KS icon in your system tray, which stands for Keybreeze Sync, if Keybreeze Sync is running. You can right-click this icon and click Exit to close Keybreeze Sync.
